Franklin County Attorney For Thrift Savings Plans And QDROs
Much of my work in this area of law involves issues related to Qualified
Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs), Thrift Savings Plans (TSPs), Servicemembers
Group Life Insurance (SGLI) or life insurance:
QDROs: According to the United States Department of Labor, a "qualified
domestic relations order" (QDRO) is a domestic relations order that
creates or recognizes the existence of an alternate payee's right
to receive, or assigns to an alternate payee the right to receive, all
or a portion of the benefits payable with respect to a participant under
a retirement plan, and that includes certain information and meets certain
TSPs: The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is a federal government-sponsored retirement
savings and investment plan created to provide retirement income for people
in the military. The TSP offers the same type of savings and tax benefits
that many private corporations offer their employees under so-called 401(k)
plans. Like 401(k)s, they can be lost during a nasty divorce.
SGLI: SGLI is a program that provides low-cost term life insurance coverage to
eligible servicemembers. Active duty members of the Army, Navy, Air Force,
Marines or Coast Guard are automatically enrolled for coverage.
Life insurance: These significant benefits are often overlooked. As a lawyer who is experienced
in military and high-asset divorce, I know how to account for and protect
all of your assets.
As an attorney, I know how to protect your retirement savings so that the
resources are there for you and your future — not your ex-wife's.
If you are facing a divorce, child custody proceeding or support dispute,
you need an attorney who will fight to protect your rights.
